To Pilates or not Pilates...that is the question?

Ah planks...aren't they wonderful? I remember the first time I saw someone doing planks and thinking that doesn't look so bad.. until the moment I tried to hold up my own body weight. It was at that moment I knew that planks were going to be my worst enemy. I had no idea that something that looks very simple, is probably one of the hardest freaking exercises to do (at least in my opinion). So here I am a 46-year-old mother that is in menopause and has belly fat that just doesn't want to seem to go away. My bones pop and lock (and not in a cool way), and every muscle in my body aches. So it is important for me to find an exercise regimen that is low impact and something I can gradually improve on. Of course my first thought was to try Pilates.

The first thing that I did was search for free Pilates apps for beginners. I found a 30 day Pilates app where I could do low impact exercises that would take less than 15 minutes out of my day. For the first two weeks I was consistent with doing Pilates in the evening after work (because I am not a morning workout person), however, I slacked off this routine during the third week. I'm not sure if anyone else experiences this, but I found myself losing motivation to workout, despite the fact that I actually enjoyed doing Pilates. During those two weeks I recognized that I was feeling better and had more flexibility. One of the reasons why I began Pilates was to help with my lower back pain and to lose weight. With being middle age I also believe it is important to stretch and try to maintain as much flexibility as possible. As I am writing this, my plan beginning July 1st 2024 is to begin my 30 day Pilates journey and actually complete it this time. During this journey I plan to track any weight loss on a weekly basis and journal how I am feeling physically/mentally.

Although I am not the biggest fan of planks...I choose Pilates.

Is Pilates your thing?

What do you prefer as part of your exercise/self-care routine?
